Great American Insurance Group appointed Steve Milano as divisional vice president of claims at its Accident & Health Division, which has the brand name Pomi.

Mikano will lead all aspects of claims within the division, including working with internal stakeholders and third-party vendors to improve and streamline processes, the insurer said in a press release.

Mikano most recently served as director of claims for LegalEase in Houston. Before then, he was a senior managers for claims at American International Group’s Internal Audit Group, according to his LinkedIn page.

Mikano is based in Houston.

Mitchell Sandler Hires Former Ariz. Insurance Regulator

The Mitchell Sandler law firm in Washington D.C. has appointed Evan Daniels, formerly director of the Arizona Department of Insurance & Financial Institutions, as counsel.

Daniels previously directed the agency that licenses and oversees insurers, banks, credit unions and mortgage lenders in Arizona. Before then, he served at the Arizona Attorney General’s Office,where he litigated issues relating to consumer protection, data privacy, government relations and public monies, Mitchell Sandler said in a press release.

Daniels was responsible for managing the Arizona Fintech Sandbox, a first-in-the-nation program designed to provide regulatory flexibility for financial services technology in Arizona, the law firm said.

“When we set out to further expand our financial services and fintech practice areas, we could not have imagined someone better suited than Evan to support and diversify our business platform,” said Andrea Mitchell, founder and managing partner of Mitchell Sandler.

Mitchell Sandler is a women-managed, majority women-owned boutique law firm that focuses on financial services and financial services technology, or fintech.

CAC Speciality Appoints Claims Legal Officer

CAC Speciality, a specialty insurance broker based in Denver, appointed Carrie O’Neil as its chief legal officer.

She replaces John Tanner, the former chief legal officer and claims leader, who will be leaving his position in April, the company said in a press release. Tanner oversaw CAC’s merger with Cobbs Allen Capital Holdings.

CAC said O’Neil is an expert in management liability. She started her career in corporate law, serving as in-house counsel for Vail Resorts and a San Francisco start-up company before transitioning to the insurance industry. O’Neil held senior executive positions at JLT Specialty, Berkshire Hathaway and Aon, CAC said.

O’Neil was awarded her juris doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1998, according to her LinkedIn page. She also received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the university.
