Claims People: Ascot, Sapiens and Goldberg Segalla

Ascot Names Chief Claims Officer
Marina Barg

Ascot, an international reinsurer and specialty insurer based in London, has appointed Marina S. Barg as chief claims officer for North America.

Barg will work with Ascot’s Ethos Specialty business units and executives in Bermuda, London and the United States in a newly created position. She will report to Matt Kramer, Ascot’s chief executive officer for the US.

Barg previously was a senior vice president and head of claims for W.R. Berkley. Prior to that, she spent six years at Navigators, firstly on US casualty claims before being promoted to chief claims officer. Barg has also spent time at Starr Companies and American International Group working across a range of casualty related exposures, the company said.

“Marina is a seasoned claims practitioner who has demonstrated a tech-first vision for the digital transformation of large complex claims functions,” Kramer stated.

Barg was an assistant prosecutor for the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office in New Jersey from 1997 to 2004, according to her Linkedin page. She received her Juris Doctor from the Seton School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from Johns Hopkins University.

Sapiens Appoints North America President
Jamie Yoder

Insurance software provider Sapiens International Corp. appointed Jamie Yoder — formerly of Snapsheet — as president and general manager in North America.

Yoder will lead Sapiens’ business operations in North America, the Holon, Israel-based company said in a press release. The company says it has 4,000 employees in 27 countries and operates 11 US offices.

“Jamie’s proven capabilities in strategy and large-scale transformation, along with his relationships with top-tier insurance carriers, will be an asset for Sapiens,” stated President and Chief Executive Officer Roni Al-Dor. “We have built a strong foundation in North America. A key objective is to increase our presence in this region further, build strong, lasting customer relationships, and expand our market share.”

Yoder previously was president of Snapsheet, a Chicago-based claims technology provider. Before that, he was the insurance advisory leader for PwC, a consulting practice that advises insurers. He led PwC’s global research program on the “Future of Insurance,” Sapiens said.

Yoder also led the insurance [Practice and served on the management committee at Diamond Management & Technology Consultants, which PwC acquired in 2010. Yoder started his career as a senior consultant in the worldwide technology division of Andersen Consulting (now Accenture), Sapiens said.

Goldberg Segalla Adds Partner in L.A.

The Goldberg Segalla law firm has added partner Kenneth A. Remson to its Global Insurance Services group in Los Angeles.

Remson was previously with Woolls Peer Dollinger & Scher in Los Angeles.

Remson has more than 30 years experience handling complex insurance coverage claims in jurisdictions across the country, the law firm said. He has extensive experience in errors and omissions, directors and officers, environmental liability, construction defects, employment practices liability, cyber security, business interruption and aviation matters.

Remson was a deputy attorney general for the state of Hawaii in the Civil Recoveries Division, where he represented the state’s agencies, departments, and employees in construction disputes, insurance coverage, class actions, collections, and other complex claims. He also served as a clerk to US District Court Judge Andrew J. Kleinfeld in Alaska. Prior to entering the legal field, Remson pursued a career in broadcast journalism for a number of years as a news and sports anchor and reporter, Goldberg Segalla said.

Remson he volunteered for more than 10 years for the Alliance for Children’s Rights in Los Angeles, finalizing 100s of adoptions and representing families in benefits cases.

He earned his bachelor’s degree from Stanford University, his master’s degree in journalism from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, and his juris doctor from the Duke University School of Law.

Charles Lowe
Global Risk Solutions Appoints Training Leader

Global Risk Solutions, Inc., a property and casualty claims management provider based in Miami, has appointed Charles H. Lowe to administer programs offered by its GRS Learning & Training Institute.

Lowe was appointed senior vice president of learning and development. He oversees the institute with the support of Carlos Sylvester, who recently joined GRS as a training manager.

Before joining GRS, Lowe held various executive roles in claims at property and casualty insurers, including Southern Oak Insurance, Security First, Sunshine State Insurance, and Citizens Property Insurance Corp, the company said in a press release. For much of his career, he has focused on building claims organizations, including daily claims examination, field adjusting, litigation/casualty claims examination, commercial and large loss oversight, catastrophe response and special investigative and fraud prevention programs, the company said.

“Training is core to our mission of delivering the best people, process and technology to meet our clients’ needs. We are delighted to have the high-caliber talent of Charlie, who has direct experience handling some of the biggest P&C claim events in our industry’s history,” stated Group Chief Executive Officer Arthur “Kip” Radigan.
