Come on, if we send our trade commission to China with the statement that says If you do not settle this matter with the american legal system we request our congress to impose a fee for every dollar of imports you send, we will impose a $.25 recapture fee to pay us back for the creation of a wallboard replacement fund. THEY WILL WANT TO GET INVOLVED IN THE SETTLEMENT AND THEY WILL PAY UP!

They can just forgive the massive debt we owe them and we will call it even :)

Sarah Palin…is that you? Are you still looking at Russia? Appears you may be even more delusional if you think the Chinese are going to pay one dime regarding the Chinese Drywall. They got the President of Mattel to publically apologize to them for the insult regarding lead paint on toys. The homeowners affected by this debacle may get a Christmas card from them though. I used to Manage the subrogation department at a major carrier years ago and every claim we had involving the Chinese resulted in our getting Christmas cards from them. No $$$….just Christmas cards. Oh, and the product defect we were dealing with…flammable pajamas for infants.

Let me know how that works out for you. For those “government is the problem” psychopants, this is a great example of where the government needs to protect its citizens. For those “lets offshore everything that we can” delusionists, this is a great example of what happens when we export American jobs. Good luck on holding Chinese companies responsible. You wanted cheap and you got it. Oh, and since we’re selling ourselves like two dollar whores, don’t hold your breath if your industry happens to need rare earth materials. The Chinese came in and bought the industrial machinery, lock stock and barrel, and crated it up and shipped it back to China.

We have met the enemy, and he is us.

The US has borrowed over $800 billion from China so far to date..we aren’t in the best position to mandate anything with them.

American-based importers are left holding the bag for liability over this Chinese crap they bring in the country, and why they are rated as a manufacturer on their GL policies. These Chinese companies do not have to respond to US lawsuits, so how convenient! Just churn out some s#itty, toxic drywall or toxic toys (or fill in the blank) using slave labor, export it out and make billions, and not be held accountable for one red cent of liability.. sounds like a money-making scheme to me and we are dumb enough to keep going back for more

Okay, so obviously… Jim is an Obama disciple and far left advocate.

“Gov’t is the problem psychopaths”? You are delusional and way off the mark.

You think our outsourcing to China is bad for the economy; what about the billions we owe them because of our government’s lack of control when it comes to spending?

Most companies outsource to China to escape gov’t interference. Also, why pay someone 10’s of thousands of dollars a year when the same job can be done by a china man of pennies? I’m not saying we should pay Americans pennies, but more can be done to keep jobs here.

The problem is gov’t! They are not providing incentives for businesses to stay here. They just keep driving companies away.

The problem with socialism (and high taxes) is that you eventually run out of other people’s money

Mula, I see you don’t have the intestinal fortitude to put your real name on your post. I’m sure that the hundreds of thousands of people living in toxic waste dumps constructed of free-wheeling Chinese drywall will find your comments comforting.

The Republicans borrowed us into oblivion by starting two unnecessary wars based on lies, and now blame progressives for bankrupting us.

“Republicans love America. They just hate about 50% of the people who live there.”

There will be no substantial change until the system collapses under its own weight. Thanks to our profiglate war spending and our corrupt Supreme Court, that may be sooner than we think.

Actually it was the democrats (starting with Carter) who forced banks to provide mortgages to people who could not afford them. That is what really killed our economy.

Obama and his congress have already spent more in 2 years than Bush did in all 8 years combined (and at least Bush accomplished something; no more attacks on our soil; you can’t argue with that one, sorry).

You can attack and try to distract from the issue (by name calling and insults; a typical tactic used by our current administration as well), but the truth remains.

I don’t disagree with you… that the gov’t should do something about this mess -something absolutely must be done to protect the people. I never said otherwise.

However, I don’t expect the gov’t to do much about it. Why?, first because they haven’t really done anything thus far and second, they can’t oppose China, because how will they then be able to spend money they don’t have?

Give me a break – just another CNN blind follower.
