i really have a problem with people who try to minimize this situation. if obama was trying to really hurt bp he would have hit them with alot more than 20b upfront hell he gave them three years to pay that. there will likely be claims from every state and possibly other countries. look 30% of the worlds sea food starts its life in the estuaries of louisiana so please dont minimize the affect on the sea food industry. not to mention oyster business, what about realestate brokers whos deals have fallen apart, banks that have mortgages on the marinas fishing boats and hotels in the area? the damage is far reaching and incredible. if you have a small business and had a violation would anyone help you no you would be at the mercy of the fed. bp should consider themselves lucky obama is working with them. besides punishing bp doesnt put people out of work believe me other companies like shell exxon conoco etc. are just waiting to grab the good assets all these assets still need staffed so the oil rig employees will be working just not for bp maybe they will work for a company that values thier lives and enforces safety concerns and doesnt allow small expenses to stand in the way of safe business practices.
