    (FYI, it’s arguments, not “arguements.”

Anyway, you’re exactly right about the act being criminal or civil. That’s what many courts have reasoned in throwing out punitive damage awards. These courts reasoned that such excessive awards amount to such an excessive punishment that the matter should have been taken up in criminal courts, where the defendant has more rights.

Joe, I agree with you on the non economic damages. Too many lawyers and potential plantiffs will see this as an opportunity to hit the lottery, given the right jury. It should not be that, because while a few people will win big, the vast majority of the public will be losers with higher prices for all. I can just see the TV commercials now, were you or a loved one econonomically damaged or suffered a loss due to the BP oil spill? Call 1-800-get rich and speak to one of our professionals.

Interesting that there’s been no response yet.

Besides: * There were many anomalies that occured on 9/11; many unanswered questions, and if you REALLY believe that bin Laden had the resources to do what the Russians do not, then there’s a bridge in Brooklyn that I’ll sell you – GET YOUR TITLE WARMED UP, DUDE. The Russians are MUCH smarter than that!

    * anyone who knows anything about the Middle East region, knows that AlQaeda & Iraq were mortal enemies – MAYBE SO, BUT THEY’RE NOT ENEMIES WITH SAUDI ARABIA, WHICH IS WHERE THE $$ COMES FROM!!

If Big Oil’s profits off OUR national resources are limitless so should be their liabilities.

Wow, for somethe argument has devolved into a Bush derangement syndrome. As far the WMD, the Brits and others held the same view and the Iraqis pumped that view in an attempt to bluff for power. So let’s get over the no WMD and Halliburton did it nonsense. As respects the unlimited caps, the law of equal an opposite reaction applies. If we do that, then the costs will surely rise and that cost will be passed along to the consumer. After all, no corporation really pays taxes or absorbs all these costs. If we want to cut off our noses, let’s do so knowing that we will have to pay for the reconstructive surgery. Sure, the limit should be raised but not to the point of diminishing return. Balance is needed not hot rhetoric about punishment for something we must have to keep our social, political and economic system running smoothly.

Outrage-why do you think cabinet member that Janet Napalotano has the moniker of Janet Incompatano and I am sure the Mr. Salazar is not far behind. The Obama administration if full of people who have never held a private sector job, unless you include “Professor” as a privat sector position. These lifelong civil servants and academics couldn’t find their backside with one hand. And, we are to believe they will fix the problems we face. Nice theory, but, then again, the theoretical world is where they reside.

I have to admit, I read through everyone’s post and this was the funniest argument I have heard or read is a long time. You people are not even talking about the article, instead actions of what the government has done years ago.
Thank you very much for a good laugh!

No WMDs huh? I remember hearing something about Halabja and Anfal. As a matter of fact, I’ve been to those places. When I was on my tour there in 2005, we found chemical weapons that CNN kept insisting weren’t there. And, in case you forgot, chemical weapons are WMDs.
