You’re right, but, still, that’s not a reason to protect these small companies. In fact, exempting them from full liability for all economic and environmental damages would allow them an unfair advantage against larger companies.
If they don’t have the finanical wherewithal to handle the potential exposures, then these small companies shouldn’t be competing with larger companies.
Sounds like a bunch of childish arguements are brewing and they have little to do with the subject.
I think it is only fair if I have unlimited liability persionally that the Oil companies should be held to the same standard. This being said I agree that Punitive damage awards are often excessive and likely hurt society more then they benifit anyone. If the act was that evil make it a criminal issue.
Yeah and is the government going to protect us when gas goes over $5 a gallon
and the oil companies have to purchase insurance for unlimited recovery? They don’t give two hoots about us or the oil companies. Isn’t it amazing that after Obama gives the okay to offshore drilling,
this disaster happens.
Never? That’s a bit of a stretch isn’t it?
If there NEVER were WMD’s in Iraq then the thousands of Kurds were killed by what? Laughing gas?
Recently the Time Square bomber was charged with “attempting to use a Weapon of Mass Destruction” What was his WMD? Three propane tanks, gasoline and inert fertizlier. Yet you blindly assert that ” there never were WMD in Iraq”
If the Democrats get this bill retroactive before the spill, then I think we vote in as many Republicans as possible and then have them vote to pass a law that it’s against the law to have a Democratic party, retroactively to 1776. That will clear out all this nonsense. I agree it should be higher than $75 million, or no limit at all, but let’s do it going forward. Plus BP has yet to prove they will not pay ALL reasonable claims no matter what the limit, like they said they would.
Lets face, big oil is protected in a big way. However, to put a limit on their exposure is not in the best interests of society. Force them to get insurance in the amount of their market cap. Because of the damage these parties inflicted on the entire world, the responsible companies entire assets should be liquidated. Similiarities bewteen BP and Madoff can be made.

I served, too, as did my father, many uncles and nephews, and both of my sons, including the oldest in the first Gulf War.
Oh, yes, you’re, I’m sure, a top-secret CIA operative. Just because you served in the military doesn’t mean that you know jack sh*t about security.
Your paranoia is showing; hey, duck, I just saw a black helicopter buzz by you.
enlighten us…who exactly WAS responsible for 9/11?

Wake up
I’m sorry JP, but just what name calling did Fred through out there? He didn’t call anyone a name like many responders often do.
