From New york times article on the spill, and not to change the course of this discussion but….well read this quote.

“Mr. Obama’s comments reflected increased frustration in the administration with BP’s inability to plug the oil leak. The president again reiterated that American taxpayers would not foot the bill.

“BP is responsible for this leak — BP will be paying the bill,” Mr. Obama said.”

The president reiterated that the taxpayer wouldn’t be left holding the bag and that “bp created this mess, they’re gonna clean it up, not the taxpayer”

Wouldn’t it be nice if he applied that same logic to all the failed institutions that created the financial meltdown/recession? Fannie/Freddie/AIG/Citi etc
    etc.

Why is it that wall street can make a mess and taxpayers have to clean it up, but when its an oil spill, there’s no bailouts to be had???

Transparency…….it doesn’t apply to anything this administration does.

It’s ok for Oil companies to be held accountable (if you wanna call it that) but if you’re a bank, you get a bailout and millions in bonuses. Guess there’s not many politicians with previous employment history in the oil/gas exploration field huh? If there was, there’d be bailouts a plenty.

I feel truly sorry for the fisherman who make their living off the gulf.

Now we wait to see how this pans out, meanwhile the cost of shrimp and gulf seafood will skyrocket. Something is def. fishy here.

Please keep in mind that Canada is the largest supplier of oil to the USA and most of it comes from the Arctic wilderness where we are not allowed to drill. Mexico is our secound largest supplier, and then Saudi Arabia.

There are many “safe” areas to drill but the green weenies would prefer that we depend on solar panels in Seatle and wind turbines where they won’t disturb wealthy swine like the late Ted Kennedy, Walter Cronkite, and Steven Spielberg.

One tragic oil spill does not mean we should drop our oil exploration and return to living in caves. A lady in a parking lot backed out suddenly as I was walking behind her cottage sized SUV and she knocked me over. I still go to the grocery store where it happened- I just watch parked cars more carefully now.

Reducing oil use is OK with me. How bout Barry Obama and Joe the Gaffe Biden sharing the same airplane when they’re both headed to the Big Apple? I have two cars that I use regularly. The tiny one is great in the city because it delivers 40 mpg (and it’s 52 years old) and my larger car will go well over 140 mph but delivers 30 mpg on the interstate.

There is no way that the oil rig was sabotaged and there is not enough room here to explain why.

Many large corporations are very honest and open in their operations. My employer is one that I trust completely. And it’s a huge company that people love to hate sometimes.

The oil rig collapse was just one of those things, you know? As Americans we need to clean up the mess, add more safeguards if needed, and indeed drill baby drill.

Please note that the rig owners – Transocean-only have a max of $1 billion of insurance cover. BP took the decision to self insure some years ago. So BP are actually offering to pay with their own/shareholders cash.

You are right Barry about security arrangements when the Prez and VP are travelling. I resent being called a fool and I readily admit it when I’m wrong.

Barry O. in the White House does however make lots of unnecessary trips that consume thousands of gallons of jet fuel. And yes, all presidents tend to go crazy when they have fleets of aircraft at their disposal.

That said, we as a country still have access to huge reserves of oil that we should use until realistic alternatives are available.
