I love how NHTSA starts quoting statistics for 2009 without first releasing them to the public for scrutiny.

    ftp://ftp.nhtsa.dot.gov/fars/

As usual, the public will not be given access to the stats until October 2010 long after the MADD run NHTSA spews propaganda that can not be substantiated.

And remember 33k deaths does not equate to DRIVERS. A little inflationary technique the NHTSA likes to use to claim a problem is bigger than it is.

Count the drivers, not the resultant death NHTSA

I thought the mid-00’s increase in speed limits was supposed to result in thousands more deaths every year.

I thought that distracted driving was the worst threat to humankind since ALAR, DDT, bird flu, SARS, swine flu, etc.

This data needs to be better “managed,” or else the masses will get harder and harder to control.

Oh, You Are So Skeptical! Have you forgotten all of the sunny news that has been brought to us via the Obama train since 01/20/2009? Can’t you see that all of his efforts at controlling us are now paying off? Thank your holy spirits that Toyota is stepping up to fill that gap left by the Corvair and Falcon.

My bad, I thought ignoring chain emails was the worst threat to humankind.

    Oh well.

I wonder what the statistics are for overall accidents. I know out here in Arizona they are putting in these “round-a-bouts.” They definitely put a decline in deaths, but increases accidents, just at lower speeds. With statistics posted like this, no wonder the public gets mad when they see their insurance premium increase. Less deaths should equal less premium, but I have a feeling that there might be more accidents.

Less deaths = more people surviving = higher overall medical costs = higher repair costs for damaged vehicles due to increased safety features = higher insurance premiums.

That’s why some folks support no-helmet laws for motorcyclists. Fewer surviviors that way, with attendant medical bills.

come on, flat earthers – the jist of things is that cars are safer, seat belts save lives, and there was definitely a shooter on the grass knoll.
    let’s move on.
