    Its the economy stupid! Less people and businesses driving = less accidents (less fuel consumption, blah blah blah).

    I would think that the denominator of the statistic, vehicle miles traveled, would adjust for the slower economy…

    The fatalities were created in one way or another by at least one driver. At the end the article is called ‘”Traffic fatalities”
    not “Driver fatalities”
    Chances that a bicyclist or a pedestrian would crash in a stationary car and kill the driver.. . are very slim
