Just goes to show how clueless so many people are. You can tell them in the right way to do the craziest things and they will just do it because someone said so.

“caller convinced a worker at a Holiday Inn Express to set off an audible fire alarm and, with help from a guest, broke windows in an attempt to turn it off. She also was duped into turning on a sprinkler”

So they got her to turn on the alarm, then break the windows (with help!) and THEN set off sprinklers (which I believe takes breaking the glass cylinders or holding a lighter up to them).

Or the Burger King employees who someone convinced to take off their clothes and turn on the ansul systems.

“Yes ma’am, I am afraid the only way to make the alarm bell stop ringing is to douse the front desk in gasoline and light it on fire”

    …”really?”

(in a deep voice) “Yes, ma’am”

    …”Okay!”

Ask someone at the supermarket if they have pigs feet. When they answer “yup” tell them to put shoes on so no one will notice! Now, that’s funny right there!

I would fire the worker who fell for the prank – That shows poor judgement during a crisis and an overall lack of intelligence.

Maybe she was in on the prank?? Seriously, is anyone that stupid?

yea, just like I said, how could you be soooo stupid as to pull a fire alarm because someone calls you on the phone?

If you think that thats how they do business then you must be an idiot and I wouldnt want you working in my hotel.

There’s nothing funny about this. Some cretin is causing damage and putting people in jeapardy of injury. “fire” is nothing to joke about. People panic. They can trip, fall, have a heart attack, or even sue the establishment all because some jackass has nothing better to do. This is the kind of jerk that would benefit by some “street justice”. Nothing too extreme, maybe just a good old fashioned beating.

Intentional acts; destruction of biz property by an employee; trick and device; vandalism; exclusions; limitations…
You have to wonder if they have ISO forms or are insured by an E&S co with zillions of exlcusionary endorsements and manuscripted forms. How ’bout BOPs – BOPs are used for just about everything nowadays – perhaps a small motel – plenty of times inappropriately & providing insuficient coverage when not supported by supp coverages, but could play into limitations… and glass breakage… deductibles… Clean-up… Fire dept service charges, EDP for phones and comps – this is a big deal!
How would you handle it from a risk management and insurance standpoint?
