    Crabber —

I recently read some fascinating commentary on this subject in Thomas Sowell’s book _Economic Facts and Fallacies_.

I highly recommend the book for anyone interested.

Oh I wish I had a better memory, but a book was written by one of the founding members of NOW about this very subject and found that women are NOT discriminated against in regards to pay. Statistically women take more time off, work fewer hours, and lobby for higher positions less than men. Women also tend to be worse salary negotiators than men. If you are negotiating a salary you will get whatever you can negotiate for and that’s it. It’s your fault if you can’t negotiate the same salary as another person.

I must admit I made my comment to raise some eyebrows but no one seemed to get too upset. This was entertaining reading in my opinion

I think one of the reasons men make more might be the fact that traditionally men had to support a whole household, and back in the day women were often times just a second income.

So if men earned the same as women, in essence almost no families could afford to exist on one salary, this forces more women into the work place, and thus degrades the quality of our child care due to kids having to be ignored in day care by some loser that doesn’t even know your child.

Im not saying its ok that men make more money, im just saying this problem started a long time ago, and actually existed for good reason, but times have changed.

Nonetheless, there is another side to this issue.
