FEMA’s Brown Being Taken Off Hurricane Katrina Operations

With much discussion over just how quickly and effectively the federal government responded to Hurricane Katrina recovery efforts, Federal Emergency Management Agency Director Michael Brown may be the fall guy.

Brown was notified Friday that he is being relieved of his command of the Bush administration’s Katrina onsite relief efforts.

According to Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, Brown will be replaced by Coast Guard Vice Adm. Thad Allen, who was overseeing New Orleans relief and rescue efforts.

Chertoff said that Brown had done everything possible to oversee the federal response to this natural disaster.

Brown is still reportedly in charge of FEMA, but will return to Washington, D.C.
