South Dakota Town’s ‘New Normal’ After Tornado

Months after a tornado tore through Wessington Springs, S.D., residents say the town continues to adapt to the changes brought by the disaster.

The Daily Republic reports home and business owners continue to rebuild Wessington Springs, which on Thursday, will mark six months since the tornado.

Connie Barber and her husband lost their home in the tornado. She says life isn’t “going to be the same as it was,” but the couple is “going to have a new normal.”

The twister displaced nearly 80 people. Officials say some families have moved to new or existing homes, while others are in the process of doing so. Four families had to leave town.

The National Weather Service rated the tornado as an EF-2 and estimated its winds peaked at 127 mph.
