Bismarck Public Building Flood Costs Near $100,000

December 10, 2014

Repair costs for the Bismarck, N.D., city-county building are nearing $100,000 after boiler pipes froze and burst, flooding the basement.

City facilities director Lavonne Wohl tells the Bismarck Tribune the main government meeting room will remain out of commission through at least next week following the flooding over Thanksgiving. She says crews are tearing down pieces of the plastic ceiling and repair costs may still increase.

Next Tuesday’s city commission meeting will be held in the Bismarck Public Library auditorium. School staff members say Monday’s Bismarck School Board meeting has been tentatively moved to the Career Academy.

About 2 inches of water flooded the Tom Baker Meeting Room, an elevator, video camera equipment, carpeting, election equipment, stored county papers and electrical outlets. Heat to the building was restored Nov. 28, when the pipes were replaced.
