South Dakota Insurance Director Merle Scheiber plans to step down from his post on Dec. 29. He has been insurance director since 2005.
Larry Deiter, currently the division’s assistant director of property and casualty insurance, has been named interim director.
“The insurance marketplace is a complex and challenging field to regulate, and I thank Merle for his public service to consumers and the industry,” said State Labor and Regulation Secretary Marcia Hultman in announcing Scheiber’s resignation. “I wish him all the best in the future.”
A permanent replacement likely will not be announced until after the 2015 legislative session ends in March, the Associated Press reported.
