Minnesota Couple Plans to Rebuild Elsewhere After Mudslide

A Minnesota couple forced from their home by a mudslide caused by heavy June flooding is moving forward with plans to rebuild elsewhere.

Mud from a nearby hill cascaded into Randy and Terry Carlson’s home in Le Sueur during record rainfall. The home was unlivable and insurance didn’t cover the damage. The Carlsons weren’t sure how they could come up with $250,000 to shore up the hillside and repair damage to their home.

WCCO-TV says Randy is a longtime coach in Belle Plaine and came out of retirement to teach again. He also drives a school bus.

A contractor has purchased their damaged home. The sale, along with community fundraisers, have helped the couple buy some land in Belle Plaine where they plan to break ground for a new home in April.
