A Racine, Wis., couple whose 1-year-old son was run over in the driveway of their home is hoping their story will prompt others to avoid similar accidents.
Kashton Nikolaus suffered internal injuries as well as scrapes, but survived the ordeal last month.
Christen Sharkozy-Nikolaus says she frantically pulled her boy from under the truck her husband was driving. She says their son’s face was blue, he was limp and she thought they had lost him. Kashton spent a week at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.
WTMJ-TV reports the parents have started a “look twice” campaign and plan to petition for installing back-up cameras or sensors in vehicles.
Just two days before Kashton was injured, another child, 5-year-old Naomi Guerrero, was killed when a teen backed a van over her in Racine.
