Indiana FEMA Aid Request for January Storm Denied

Indiana plans to appeal after the Federal Emergency Management Agency denied the state’s request for assistance to governments and certain nonprofits from the severe winter storm in early January.

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security announced the appeal plans Wednesday. Indiana last month requested federal grants for government and certain nonprofit organizations in 49 counties. The Jan. 5-9 storm that dumped heavy snow and plunged temperatures below zero across much of the state.

The agency says the requested grants would pay 75 percent of eligible expenses including debris and snow removal, emergency protective measures such as search and rescue, and damage to buildings and equipment.
