Pipeline company Enbridge Energy says it will pay for damages after a crew dropped a tree on power lines, blowing several transformers and prompting dozens of fire calls.
The Times Herald of Port Huron reports the crew was preparing for a pipeline replacement project Nov. 26 when the mishap knocked out power to more than 500 electricity customers and prompted several Marysville residents to call 911 because of smoke in homes.
Morton Elementary School also was evacuated.
Project manager Doug Reichley said the company provided hotel rooms for about 20 people and Thanksgiving dinner for about 50 at a restaurant.
The project is replacing Calgary, Alberta-based Enbridge’s Line 6B, which runs between Sarnia, Ontario to Griffith, Ind. A portion of Enbridge’s existing pipeline ruptured in southwestern Michigan in 2010.
