Flint Steps Up Efforts to Fight Arson in City

October 17, 2013

Flint’s fire department says it is ramping up efforts to fight arson in the Michigan city, focusing on specific areas with vacant homes and offering rewards for tips.

The Flint Fire Department said in a statement Tuesday that field work and public education are at the center of the effort.

Chief David Cox Jr. says department members have been canvassing areas of the city with concentrations of abandoned homes that can attract arsonists. They’re distributing information in those areas about an arson tip line. Possible rewards of $5,000 are offered.

Tips about arson in Flint may be called in to the Michigan Arson Prevention Committee at 800-44-ARSON.
