Storms Cause More Than $71M in Insured Losses in Ohio

The Ohio Insurance Institute says the severe storms that hit the state in July resulted in insured losses of at least $71 million.

The Columbus Dispatch reports the group on Monday released the results of a survey of 26 insurance companies showing that those insurers received more than 16,000 claims stemming from the July 10 round of storms that caused widespread flooding and three tornadoes across Ohio.

About 70 percent of those claims involve damage to homes, while the rest are related to cars and businesses. Not all insurance companies are represented in the survey.

The Institute is a trade association representing insurance companies in the state.

The newspaper reports some areas of the state saw up to eight inches of rain in the two-week period before July 10.
