A Toledo councilman says the northwest Ohio city is looking at areas of potential sinkholes to ensure road safety after one large sinkhole swallowed a moving car and briefly trapped the driver.
WTOL-TV reports the city council agreed Tuesday to pay a private contractor $73,000 out of a sewer fund for the repairs needed to patch the hole. Utility workers and contractors had to clean out and replace broken sewer lines and then fill and cover the sinkhole that opened at a major intersection in early July.
Councilman Tyrone Riley tells the television station that the city now is considering other potential problem spots.
City officials have said the total bill for the July sinkhole rises to an estimated $100,000 when the cost of city employee labor is included.
