412 iPads Stolen From Western Indiana School

Thieves have stolen 412 iPad tablet computers from a western Indiana school.

The theft at North Central Junior/Senior High School in Farmersburg was discovered when school staff arrived Wednesday morning. The loss tops $200,000.

Northeast School Corp. Superintendent Mark Baker tells the Sullivan Daily Times 370 iPads were earmarked for high school students. He says a district initiative to switch from high school textbooks to the tablet computers has left the school with only a few textbooks that students must share for the time being.

Classes begin Aug. 14 at the school 75 miles southwest of Indianapolis.

Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Dave Haddix says a window was broken out to gain entry and the theft probably involved someone inside passing them out the window to another person.
