Chicago Suburb Gets $3.8M Grant for Flood Control

A northern Illinois village is getting more than $3.8 million in federal assistance for flood-control measures.

Bartlett, to the northwest of Chicago, experienced heavy flooding in 2008 that damaged homes in a subdivision.

Village President Kevin Wallace says most of the grant money from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will address flooding issues in the Hearthwood Farms subdivision.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports that the project includes the installation of two stormwater detention basins, a small berm and inlets.

The federal funding will cover 75 percent of the village’s $5 million stormwater management project.
