Normal city leaders want to spend $12 million to build three new fire stations in the central Illinois community.
The Pantagraph reports the community plans to borrow money for the project.
It was approved by the city council during a strategic planning session on Tuesday.
Officials say that the new stations will replace others that are currently in use. They could be constructed during the course of a decade.
Officials hope the three new fire stations will improve response time.
