Storm Damage Closes Central Indiana Salvation Army Store

Extensive damage from a lighting strike has caused the Salvation Army to close one of its central Indiana thrift stores.

Salvation Army Capt. Dale Brandenburg says the lightning strike last month badly damaged the electrical system, heating and air conditioning at the Kokomo store.

Brandenburg tells the Kokomo Tribune it would cost $30,000 to make repairs and that organization leaders decided that wasn’t the best use of the insurance money.

The damaged shop was closed on Saturday, while another Salvation Army store in Kokomo remains open.

Brandenburg says the group plans to tear down the damaged store and replace it with a new building within the next few years.
