Illinois City Toughens Vicious Dog Ordinance

The city of Bloomington, Ill., has toughened its ordinance dealing with vicious dogs.

The Pantagraph reports that Bloomington alderman on Monday approved changes to the ordinance. Specifically owners of vicious dogs will now have to buy liability insurance and have the animals spayed or neutered, micro-chipped and marked with bright-colored tags.

The measure drew criticism from Wish Bone Canine Rescue in Bloomington. The group wants the city to consider testimony from a behaviorist before deciding whether a dog is dangerous or should be euthanized.

Several aldermen suggested they consider the issue again in the fall.
