Police Nab 433 in Statewide Drunk Driving Sweep

Michigan says police arrested 433 people for drunken driving during a three-week statewide crackdown.

The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning announced results Tuesday from the enforcement effort that ran March 13-April 8. It says officers from 155 agencies participated and made 12,296 traffic stops.

The period included the NCAA basketball tournament, high school and college spring break periods and St. Patrick’s Day.

Michigan law defines drunken driving as having at least 0.08 percent alcohol in the blood. The state says 72 of those arrested were considered “super drunk” under a law that targets drivers who have at least a 0.17 percent blood alcohol reading.

Four-hundred-five people were arrested in last year’s crackdown.
