Chicago Pays $55,000 to Woman in Stun Gun Case

The city of Chicago will pay $55,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by a woman who says a police officer shocked her with a stun gun when she was eight months pregnant.

Tiffany Rent sued the city and the police, accusing an officer of using a stun gun during a dispute about a parking ticket in June last year. Her lawsuit said the action added risk to her pregnancy.

Police said at the time that Rent tore up a ticket for parking in a disabled space and threw it in an officer’s face.

The city Law Department spokesman, Roderick Drew, tells the Chicago Sun-Times that the settlement is not “an admission of wrongdoing by the city or any officers involved.”

Rent gave birth to a healthy boy in July.
