Law enforcement agencies in more than two dozen Michigan counties are conducting extra patrols to arrest suspected drunken drivers through April 8.
The Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning is coordinating the effort that starts Wednesday.
The enforcement period includes St. Patrick’s Day, the NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, and high school and college spring breaks.
Law enforcement officers from agencies in Allegan, Berrien, Calhoun, Chippewa, Delta, Eaton, Genesee, Grand Traverse, Houghton, Ingham, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Kent, Livingston and Macomb counties are involved. Other counties with agencies taking part include Marquette, Monroe, Muskegon, Oakland, Ogemaw, Ottawa, Saginaw, St. Clair, Van Buren, Washtenaw and Wayne.
