The Chicago Transit Authority is hoping to catch more crime on camera.
The CTA has begun a seven-month project to install high-definition cameras on about 850 rail cars. The project is designed both to deter crime and help police investigate crimes that do happen.
In a statement Monday, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says having an excellent transportation system is a goal for his administration and he wants to make sure Chicagoans are safe when they’re on the CTA’s trains and buses.
The CTA has purchased new rail cars that come equipped with cameras. The agency now is working to retrofit its older train cars.
