FEMA Grants $2M to Help Fix Minnesota City’s Wastewater Pipe

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is granting $2 million to help repair a 3-foot wastewater pipe damaged by the Duluth, Minn., storm last June.

U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan announced the grant Monday. Nolan says the grant will go to the city of Duluth and the state of Minnesota to repair damage to the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District pipe.

The federal grant represents 75 percent of repair costs.

The pipe carries wastewater from a location on East Highway 61 in Thompson Township to the sanitary district’s Knowlton Creek Pump Station in West Duluth.

In a news release, Nolan says the FEMA grant is welcome, but much more needs to be done to repair bridges, roads and other infrastructure throughout the Eighth Congressional District.
