Man Allegedly Scammed 2 Indiana Tornado Victims

December 18, 2012

A home-improvement contractor faces fraud and theft charges for allegedly scamming two victims of the March tornado that devastated the Henryville area.

Fifty-year-old Karl Wray pleaded not guilty Friday to home-improvement fraud and theft charges stemming from work he allegedly was paid for and failed to do on four homes, including two homes damaged by the March 2 storm.

The Courier-Journal of Louisville, Ky., reports Wray has been jailed in Clark County since sheriff’s deputies arrested him Wednesday at his Sellersburg area home.

A former Indiana State Police trooper says in a probable cause affidavit that Wray overcharged him more than $2,500 for a roofing job after the tornado ripped shingles from his Henryville home on a day when 13 southern Indiana residents died in the storms.
