Unlicensed Minnesota Drivers Involved in More Fatal Crashes

The Minnesota State Patrol says unlicensed drivers are more likely to be involved in a deadly crash.

Lt. Eric Roeske says statistics from 2011 show unlicensed drivers are twice as likely to be involved in fatal accidents. He tells WCCO-TV that if a driver is behind the wheel without a license, that driver is obviously not cognizant of following the law, and that may lead them to break other laws while behind the wheel.

Two deadly crashes in the Twin Cities recently involved drivers with revoked licenses. A driver struck and killed an Augsburg College student near downtown Minneapolis last Saturday night. And Monday, a cab driver was killed when a stalled vehicle caused a multi-vehicle pileup on Interstate 494.
