An Michigan county has agreed to pay $15,000 to settle claims of safety violations at the local courthouse and water plant.
County Commissioner Michael Quayle tells The Mining Journal that most violations were relatively minor. They included a lack of a guard around a ceiling fan, a faulty eye wash station and ground fault interrupters not working. The interrupters prevent electrical shocks.
State regulators dropped the fines to $15,040 from $37,600.
Marquette County attorney Stephen Adamini says the inspection was an “eye-opener.” He says it was an important experience, especially if the inspection saves a finger or even someone’s life.
