Texting While Driving Simulator Set Up at South Dakota State Fair

A virtual reality driving simulator at the South Dakota State Fair in Huron is highlighting the dangers of texting while driving.

The simulator from AT&T, the South Dakota Highway Patrol and the South Dakota Safety Council will be set up just outside the expo building’s southeast corner on Thursday and Friday.

The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety and the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute Research say that teens text an average of 60 times a day. One text takes a driver’s eyes off the road for an average of five seconds, which at 55 miles per hour means the driver is traveling the length of a football field completely blind.
