A Hennepin County jury has cleared a former Sartell, Minn., police officer accused of negligence by a man who says he was injured in a police chase.
Brian Manion had claimed that Mark Bromenschenkel forced him through a red light into a Twin Cities intersection where Manion’s vehicle was hit by another vehicle. Manion also sued the city of Sartell.
Bromenschenkel was on duty but not in uniform at the time. He was trying to serve a forfeiture notice on Manion’s vehicle, which had been driven by a suspect arrested in a drug investigation.
The St. Cloud Times reports the jury found Monday that Manion was negligent, and his own negligence caused his injuries.
Bromenschenkel left the force last September. He was elected a Stearns County commissioner in 2010.
