A Chicago, Ill., law firm is suing Megabus on behalf of the estate of a 76-year-old Chicago woman who was struck and killed by one of the company’s buses.
Attorneys filed the lawsuit Friday morning in Cook County Circuit Court claiming negligence and wrongful death. Authorities say a Megabus struck and killed Donna Halstead on Tuesday as the driver attempted to make a turn on a downtown street. Officials say the side mirror of the empty Megabus struck the woman.
Police say the bus driver has been cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian.
Representatives for Megabus.com say their “thoughts and prayers” go out to Halstead’s family and they are “deeply saddened.”
The accident was the second deadly incident involving a Megabus in Illinois within a week.
