Weather officials have confirmed what many residents of a northeastern Ohio town suspected: A tornado touched down there over the weekend.
The National Weather Service said severe weather that caused damage to a section of Girard, near Youngstown, was a weak tornado. Some residents captured the funnel cloud on cellphone video.
A weather service team that investigated the damage Monday said circular patterns of debris were caused by a tornado.
Meteorologist Jim Cosarik said the funnel cloud made intermittent contact with ground along a three-mile path. There were no injuries.
