South Dakota Prioritizes Flood Recovery Projects

July 10, 2012

Staff in South Dakota’s capital city have prioritized $7.2 million worth of flood recovery projects to be done over the next several years.

KCCR radio reports that 34 projects in nine categories detail the work needed to repair infrastructure in Pierre that was damaged or destroyed by Missouri River flooding last summer. The list recently was given to city commissioners.

City Administrator Leon Schochenmaier says the most important projects that need to be done this year are removing sediment from the main sanitary sewer line and replacing a storm sewer line by the Oahe Sports Complex. Those projects together will cost about $1.5 million.

Funding sources will include the federal government, grants and city reserves.
