A suburban Detroit, Mich., mayor says a new ordinance under consideration in his city could challenge state law making powerful fireworks legal in Michigan.
The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens and WWJ-AM report Warren City Council on Tuesday plans to vote on restrictions about when and where people can set off those fireworks. Mayor Jim Fouts wants an ordinance to prohibit anyone from using consumer fireworks within 200 feet of a residential area.
Fouts says the city is, “in effect, challenging the state law.”
Bottle rockets, aerial cakes, Roman candles, firecrackers all can be sold and enjoyed legally after lawmakers and Gov. Rick Snyder erased the ban.
Other communities in Michigan have restricted the use of such fireworks following the new state law, but not as much as Warren proposes.
