Residents in Big Stone Lake, S.D., are cleaning up and beginning repairs after a storm that brought straight-line winds and at least one tornado.
KELO-TV reports that the National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in the Cramer’s Resort area, and straight-line winds hit Big Stone City and the nearby Minnesota community of Ortonville.
Sandi Sawchuk was still shaken a day after the storm. She tells KELO that she was outside at the lake when debris began flying and trees started falling. She says she was lucky not to be injured.
KDLT-TV reports that downtown businesses suffered the brunt of the damage in Ortonville. Drug store owner Mike Carlson says the storm ripped apart metal on his building’s exterior. A jewelry store lost its roof.
