Michigan officials have found that the collapse of a 250-foot crane at the Kent County jail in February was caused by operator error.
The Grand Rapids Press and WOOD-TV report Friday the Michigan Occupational Safety Health Administration also proposed a $28,000 fine against crane operator G-2 Inc.
The Feb. 10 collapse in Grand Rapids injured two jail inmates and one construction worker, but no one was seriously hurt. Part of the crane’s boom collapsed onto a new section of jail being built, while another part fell onto a county sheriff’s department fleet building.
G-2 Inc. has 15 days to accept the report of violations or contest them.
