Classes have been canceled after high winds damaged the parts of the roof at Chadron High School in the Nebraska Panhandle.
Principal Jerry Mack says a strong gust about 5:45 p.m. Monday caused major damage to the gymnasium roof. Roof panels were missing in at least two areas, leaving the interior open to the sky.
No injuries have been reported.
The National Weather Service reports wind gusts exceeded 50 mph at Chadron Airport on Monday evening.
Superintendent Caroline Winchester says no other damage was reported at Chadron school buildings.
