School Bus Driver’s Quick Action Averts Accident

March 28, 2012

School district officials in northwestern Wisconsin say a bus driver’s quick action helped prevent a potential accident involving a repeat drunken driver.

Kimberly Lincoln had just opened the doors to her school bus last Friday afternoon near Bruce when she spotted a car speeding toward the bus from behind. It showed no signs of slowing down, despite the flashing lights and stop sign arm on the bus.

Just as students were about to exit the bus, Lincoln slammed the doors shut. The driver sped past on the right, striking a mailbox and continuing down the road. Bruce Superintendent Joni Weinert says a “major catastrophe” was averted.

The Eau Claire Leader-Telegram reports the car’s driver was found passed out in his vehicle about 30 miles away. He was arrested for his 11th drunken driving offense.
