OSHA Cites Illnois Company for Injury at Wisconsin Plant

A federal workplace-safety agency is proposing a $91,000 fine for an Illinois company, about five months after a worker suffered electrical burns at its Wisconsin manufacturing plant.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration said Tuesday it filed six citations against Yaskawa America Inc. The Waukegan, Ill.-based company makes components for heating and cooling systems.

OSHA says the worker was injured in September at the Oak Creek plant. He suffered second- and third-degree burns on his hand after receiving an electrical shock.

The company was cited for allowing the worker to come into contact with exposed equipment. Three other alleged violations include the use of unapproved electrical equipment and failing to provide workers with proper safety gear.

A message left with a company spokesman was not immediately returned.
