Gov. Pat Quinn has appointed a new director of the Illinois Department of Insurance.
Andrew Boron is returning to state government after working as a liaison to the state’s insurance department for an insurance company. Before that, he was deputy chief of staff at the Illinois Toll Highway Authority between 2009 and 2010.
Quinn says that in addition to its regulatory functions, the insurance department was instrumental in last year’s overhaul of the state’s workers compensation system.
The agency currently employs about 260 people.
