The Maharishi Foundation USA Inc. has sued Meditation House LLC, alleging infringement on the foundation’s trademark covering the teaching of transcendental meditation.
The Des Moines Register reports the federal lawsuit was filed Monday in Des Moines. It says Meditation House lied in its advertising about the benefits of “Vedic Meditation.” It also says claims about the value of those techniques are false and designed to confuse the public with research done on transcendental meditation.
The foundation is based in Fairfield, Iowa.
A note on Meditation House website, themeditationhouse.com, says the company and life coach Jules Green “expressly disclaim any association with Maharishi Foundation,” its trademarks or practices.
Green offers workshops in San Diego, New York and Des Moines. Green did not return a call Wednesday from The Associated Press.
