Detroit, Mich., Mayor Dave Bing says fires during the Halloween period fell 44 percent from a year earlier.
Bing told reporters Tuesday that the number of structure fires reported in the three-day span totaled 94, compared with 169 in the same period a year earlier.

Detroit gained notoriety during the 1980s when vandals delighted in starting fires across the city during the Halloween eve known as Devil’s Night.
