Missouri Casino Reports Flood-related Losses

The St. Jo Frontier Casino was having a good financial year until the Missouri River began flooding in June.

Figures from the Missouri Gaming Commission show the casino in St. Joseph reported a 5 percent increase in gross revenue in the fiscal year that ended June 30. Revenues increased from more than $38 million for fiscal 2010 to just over $40 million as of June 30.

The St. Joseph News-Press reported Tuesday that the numbers show a 7 percent drop in June from a year ago.

Casino General Manager Craig Travers says flooding forced the casino to close June 27-30. June revenue totaled almost $2.9 million, compared with slightly more than $3.1 million for the prior year.

The casino will remain closed until the river levels drop to safe levels.
